When a mercenary warrior is imprisoned within The Great Wall, he discovers the mystery behind one of the greatest wonders of our world. As wave after wave of marauding beasts besiege the massive structure, his quest for fortune turns into a journey toward heroism as he joins a huge army of elite warriors to confront this unimaginable and seemingly unstoppable force.

Nein, die Chinesische Mauer wurde nicht erbaut, um das Kaiserreich vor nomadischen Reitervölkern zu schützen, sondern um eine Invasion geifernder Monster zu verhindern. Ein westlicher Söldner (Matt Damon) kämpft gemeinsam mit den Mauerwächtern gegen die Horrorwesen. Zhang Yimou inszeniert die chinesisch-amerikanische Koproduktion als Ost-West-Blockbuster mit etwas mehr Hollywoodtouch als asiatischer Filmkunst.
