This documentary explores the endless variety of Switzerland’s winged population. For Switzerland’s bird life is so vibrant and complex that it becomes a symbol for the country as a whole and a fitting reflection of its human inhabitants. The film shows pioneers and „Bünzlis“, mountain folk and city dwellers, individualists and team players, globetrotters and homebodies, long-time natives and recent arrivals, the shrill and the inconspicuous. As the birds are, so is the country.
Sehr schön sind die Aufnahmen von Bartgeier, Wiedehopf und Co. Das Nebeneinanderstellen von Vogel und Mensch ist oft witzig, wobei es Marc Tschudin um das freundliche Necken und nicht etwa um satirische Bissigkeit geht. So ist «Zwitscherland» ein liebenswerter, aber etwas biederer Film geworden.
