Regisseur Pascal Laugier («Martyrs») spielt mit der Idee eines feministischen Horrorfilms und einer unzuverlässigen Erzählweise, die das Publikum schnell an jeder Szene zweifeln lässt. Dieses sorgsam bereitgelegte Instrumentarium bringt er dann aber nicht weiter zum Einsatz, der Horror endet mut- und einfallslos.
