La notte di San Lorenzo
Paolo Taviani, Vittorio Taviani, Italy, 1982o
On the night of San Lorenzo, shooting stars fall and, according to Italian folklore, dreams come true. In 1944, a group of Italians flee the Tuscan town of San Martino after hearing rumours that the Nazis intend to blow it up before the American liberators take it over. This war story of survival is told by Concetta, a loving mother who remembers her escape as a 6-year-old. Although death and suffering are at the forefront of her memories, these often turn into surreal dreams, filled with young love and partisan heroes.
