The Gold Rush
Charlie Chaplin, USA, 1925o
A lone prospector ventures into Alaska looking for gold. He gets mixed up with some burly characters and falls in love with the beautiful Georgia. He tries to win her heart with his singular charm.
It's still a riot in spite of the despair, as Chaplin manages to find humor in even the most desperate situations—a talent derived, no doubt, from growing up in abject poverty. This also holds the distinction of featuring what is perhaps Chaplin's best performance as the Tramp.
