Boris Lojkine, France, 2019o
Idealistic 25-year-old French photojournalist Camille Lepage travels alone to the Central African Republic to report on the impending civil war. She wants to bring the often hidden conflicts in this part of the world to the attention of a broad public, but her mission soon becomes dangerous for herself. Shot at real locations, the film is based on the true story of the journalist who was killed in 2014.
By adopting the lead character’s first name for the film’s title, Boris Lojkine’s approach shows all its humility. He applies the same dignified treatment to the tragic fate of a country and its inhabitants as he does to the true story of Camille, a young woman who observes and inhabits the world with rare intensity and tries desperately to account for the conflicts and drama in a Black Africa that the West would rather ignore.
Bouleversant.
