Der Traum von Costa Rica ist auch gar nicht ihrer, sondern der ihres Vater Urs (Sebastian Rudolph), der als Arzt auf dem Land nicht glücklich ist und der Tochter seine eigenen Ausbruchsfantasien aufzwingt. Wer cinephilen Außerirdischen etwas über Deutschland erzählen wollte, seine Provinz und das deutsche Bildungsbürgertum mit seinen liberalen Ansichten und seinem oft autoritärem Tun, könnte ihnen den Film von Ulrich Köhler und Henner Winckler vorführen. Alles wirkt vertraut und gleichzeitig bedrohlich; an jedem Kreisverkehr befürchtet man eine Katastrophe.
