A Tickle in the Heart
Stefan Schwietert, Germany, Switzerland, 1996o
In the 1930s, "The Epstein Brothers" Max, Willie and Julie began their career as klezmer musicians in New York. They played their music, which they had brought with them from Eastern Europe, at the extensive festivals of the Jewish immigrants, combining joie de vivre and melancholy. When the crew of the Swiss documentary filmmaker Stefan Schwietert visited the three brothers in the early 1990s in the pensioners' paradise of Florida, the revival of klezmer music had long since begun, bringing them success and fame once again in their old age - and most of all astonishing them. In front of the camera, they once again demonstrate what they did and did best throughout their lives: making great music, telling stories with irresistible mischievousness and dazzlingly entertaining.
