Dictator Anastasio, who controls an imaginary island, is ousted in a coup d'etat organized by the archangel Gabriel. After Anastasio dies, he sets out to conquer heaven in order to re-establish his power on earth. Cristóbal, a prisoner who has just been released to become the new leader of the island, is forced to flee. He settles in the village of Tecunuman where he organizes a revolt against Anastasio and the representatives of North American companies who support him.
