The film

Trained since childhood to be an unstoppable killing machine, Jun is the elite assassin for a counterterrorism agency. And yet, he only dreams of becoming a comic book artist. Tired of eliminating target after target, he fakes his own death and starts a new life. 15 years go by and Jun is still trying to make his dreams come true by publishing webcomics, with little success. One night, after one too many drinks, he creates a comic based on his past and uses top secret information to spice up the story. This is when the troubles begin…

HITMAN: AGENT JUN is a supercharged action comedy that playfully subverts the tropes of the spy genre. Through twists and rumbles, the film never loses sight of its values: the pursuit of one’s dreams, and how to navigate a patriarchal society with rigid societal rules. Its explosive direction (including animated segments that bring the hero’s drawings to life) makes HITMAN: AGENT JUN a perfect example of how Korean cinema can gleefully jump from one genre to the next to create irresistible entertainment.

The director

Born in 1979, Choi Won-sub graduated in Film Studies at the Chung-Ang University. After working on the script for the drama CLOSER TO HEAVEN (2009), he directed his first feature film. MY BURNING HEART (2010) is a romance that conquered the audience with its sense of humour. HITMAN: AGENT JUN is Choi Won-sub’s first blockbuster, in which he professes his love for DUMB & DUMBER through unbridled comedy all the while tackling very serious topics.
