Alice Schmid has dealt with the subject of children, abuse and violence in her works all her life. When she stands in front of a painting in a museum, she suddenly remembers an event from her youth that she had repressed for over 50 years: she herself was the victim of abuse in her youth. In order to come to terms with this realization and to answer important questions, Alice Schmid has to go to a place that is safe for her: she travels to the desert in South Africa.
