The executioner Amadeo meets the undertaker José Luis at an execution. The two are united by the poor social standing of their professions. José Luis quickly hits it off with the executioner's daughter Carmen and becomes engaged to her. As Amadeo is soon to retire, he is in danger of losing his right to the new flat he is entitled to as a civil servant.
