An Israeli filmmaker arrives in a remote village at the end of the desert for the screening of one of his films. There he meets Yahalom, an official from the Ministry of Culture, and throws himself desperately into two lost battles: one against the death of freedom in his country, the other against the death of his mother.
Ahed’s Knee von Nadav Lapid ist ein sehr persönlicher und durch und durch politischer Film. Nie moralisierend, stattdessen bitter und gnadenlos. Eine Zumutung auf inhaltlicher wie stilistischer Ebene, aber im guten Sinne. Die leinwandfüllenden Close-ups von redenden, schreienden, flehenden Mündern sind Metaphern des Widerstands gegen das zunehmende Redeverbot für Künstler wie ihn in Israel.
