Indonesia in the 1960s: Nana's husband went missing under Japanese occupation years and years ago, and her father was killed at the time. Now she leads a materially secure life at the side of a rich but condescending and notoriously unfaithful man. But the traumatic past returns in Nana's dreams. An encounter with one of her husband's mistresses provides the impetus to free her from her bourgeois corset.
