Montreal, 1963. 13-year-old Hanna has to deal with growing up and with her family: Her father is trying unsuccessfully to make a living as a writer, her mother is constantly overworked. Hanna takes refuge in Godard's cinema and with her film idol Anna Karina - only to discover, like her in Vivre sa vie, that although she is free, she is above all responsible for living her life.
