The former mortician and ex-policeman Luc Conrad enjoys his new life as a restaurant guide on Costa Rica. When he travels back to Switzerland for Erika Bürgisser's 70th birthday, he meets his old companions Fabio Testi and the two Aargau policemen Anna-Maria and Doerig. In an old run-down Engadine hotel, they are just gathering to celebrate in the garden when they learn of the sudden and mysterious death of the hotel director. For the Graubünden cantonal police officer Cavegn, it is clear that it was an accident. But the mortician's crew knows a murder case when they see one and unceremoniously extends their stay.
