Following the ten-year siege of Troy and the decisive stratagem of the Trojan Horse, Odysseus and his companions wish to sail back as quickly as possible to his kingdom of Ithaca, where his wife is besieged by rivals vying for the throne and his son is growing up without a father. But when, during a stopover, he blinds a one-eyed giant and thereby arouses Poseidon’s wrath, obstacles begin to pile up in ways he could never have imagined. Will he reach Ithaca in time – or ever at all?

When Helen’s beloved father dies, she loses herself in memories of the time they spent together birdwatching and exploring nature. Obsessed with the idea of training a goshawk herself, she brings the imposing bird, Mabel, to live with her in Cambridge.
