A young couple gets a self-built house as a wedding present. The house can supposedly be built in one week. However, a rejected suitor secretly changes the numbers on the packing boxes and chaos takes its course.

Das erstes Meisterwerk des unerschütterlichen Stoikers, der niemals lachte: randvoller aberwitziger Einfälle, kleiner und grosser Katastrophen, die mit unvergleichlicher Nonchalance bewältigt werden. Hier entwickelte Keaton das Prinzip, das auch legendäre spätere Filme wie The General und Streamboat Bill Jr. prägt und die Lebenserfahrung der damaligen amerikanischen Pioniergesellschaft spiegelt. Keaton betritt die Szenerie völlig ahnungslos, muss unablässig improvisieren und entwickelt sich dabei in stupendem Tempo zum Meister jeder erdenklichen Situation: Learning by doing in Reinkultur.
