The essayistic documentary film resurrects the glorious history of the Ticino "Grand Hotel Brissago" and brings its guests back to life. The writers Tucholsky, Kästner, Mehring and the opera singer Caruso appear in the once magnificent building, but also soldiers and refugees, whom the turmoil of the war years brought to the hotel. They meet guests of today such as the architect Mario Botta and the poet Jo Mihaly.
