Senior bank employee Fabio Bonetti leads an exemplary life as a loving husband and father in Rome - or so he thinks. His bourgeois view of the world is shaken when he learns that his wife Livia was shadowed by a private detective for weeks due to a case of mistaken identity. He secretly watches the resulting Super-8 recordings in his country house, only to discover that behind his back everything is different than it seems.
