Cambodia, 1975. The Khmer Rouge take the capital Phnom Penh, drive millions of people from their homes and tear families apart. Like many middle-class families, young mother Chou and her husband Khuon are taken to a camp in the countryside. They are barely able to entrust their four-year-old son to strangers. Hard forced labor in the fields now determines their everyday life, every day is a fight for survival. Despite the violence and oppression of the terrorist regime, Chou sets out to find her son.
