Vin de Berne
Hugo Sigrist, Switzerland, 2023o
June 2017, 7000 vine seedlings lie slumbering on a south-facing slope in the east of the city of Bern, waiting for summer. They are still unaware of the frost, the plague of mice, mildew and the dry weather in the following years. Winemaker Matthias Rindisbacher, employees and many volunteers care for and nurture them. It takes a lot of machines, patience and money, as well as a great deal of manual labor. In autumn 2022, finally the first real harvest, 4 tons of Sauvignac grapes. From this, the first vintage of “Troublant” is produced in the Kirchenfeld district, a white wine and thus the first wine from 100% Bernese city production in 400 years.
