The Penguin Lessons
Peter Cattaneo, Spain, UK, 2025o
In 1976, the fatalistic aging Briton Tom has barely taken up his post as an English teacher at an Argentine boarding school for boys when the military coup gives him days off on the beach, where he finds an oil-covered penguin, cleans it - and can't get rid of it. The affectionate bird becomes his (unauthorised) pet and teaching aid, and ultimately inspires him to an act of civil courage. - Based on true events.
