Favela Olímpica shows Rio de Janeiro on both sides of the wall separating the new Olympic Stadium and the favéla Vila Autódromo. A coexistence of the two worlds would be possible. But some consider this impossible – starting with Eduardo Paes, the mayor of Rio, who wants to reclaim this land inhabited by the poorest. With the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on the back of his neck, a race against time develops between the Mayor of Rio and the favela.
Schandfleck versus Zuhause -- von diesem Kampf der Obrigkeiten gegen die Armen erzählt der Westschweizer Samuel Chalard in seinem ersten langen Dokumentarfilm. Und ja, seine Sympathien liegen klar bei den Favela-Bewohnern. Wenn die Bagger die einfachen Häuser plattmachen, sind das starke Bilder. Gleichwohl kommen auch Behörden zu Wort. Das tut dem Film gut.
