A village in Calabria, an old goatherd takes care of his flock. One night he dies, the next morning a kid is born. Later it gets lost in the forest and seeks shelter under a tall fir tree. This is cut down the next spring and serves as a festive tree during village festivities. Then the trunk is sold to charcoal burners. They cut it up and process it into coal.
