Uruguay, 1973. Having been defeated by the military dictatorship, the surviving members of the Tupamaro guerillas are imprisoned and many of them are regularly tortured. The comrades - among them the later president of the country José „Pepe“ Mujica - desperately try to find ways of enduring their imprisonment, which was to last a full twelve years.
