Mozambique is a historically multicultural island with a diversity of deep-rooted traditions. Here, a moderate version of Islam has coexisted harmoniously with many other religions. An independent young woman, Karen nevertheless is committed to Sharia law and a supposedly "pure" Islam that has little tolerance for the old cultural traditions. By examining this single, particular life, Between God and I shines a light on the fate of many young women who make radical religious decisions.
