Amor Maldito
Adélia Sampaio, Brazil, 1984o
Two young women with different social backgrounds have a lesbian relationship. The real problems begin when one of them also gets involved with a man, a journalist. The first film ever directed by an African-Brazilian woman is a tale of doomed love told with emotional sweep and a fatalistic overtone. Adélia Sampaio had a difficult time releasing her film, but the result of her supreme effort is one of the rare cinematic testaments of an entire southern hemisphere.
