In the watchmaking town of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Cécile and Pierre discover life through the eyes of their grandfather Léon. Léon is an old communist and is said to have shaken the hand of Lenin in his youth. When he dies, childhood ends for Cécile and Pierre. Cécile falls in love with a young Italian immigrant, but her parents do not understand her. So the two siblings set off together in search of a refuge for themselves and their dreams.
