Louis from Lausanne runs a funeral parlour and at 58 is a confirmed bachelor who devotes himself entirely to his profession. Igor is 40, has a sharp mind in a cerebrally paralysed body, delivers organic vegetables on his tricycle and spends the rest of his time in books, with his companions Socrates, Nietzsche and Spinoza. By chance, Louis and Igor's paths cross. On a whim, Louis decides to take Igor with him: The two set off in a hearse to bring the remains of an old woman to the foot of the Cévennes. On this journey with many encounters, Louis and Igor conquer a piece of the art of living together.
Was eine von Pathos überladene Kumpel- und Reisekomödie hätte werden können, ist dank der Selbstironie der beiden Darsteller, die auch Regisseure und Drehbuchautoren des Films sind, zu einem intelligenten, anrührenden und lebensfrohen Film geworden. Er zwingt einen, sich mit eigenen Schwächen und Vorurteilen auseinanderzusetzen, aber ohne belehrend zu sein.
