The alcoholic Josef lives lonely and neglected in a run-down two-family house with a garden. When his single sister moves into the second apartment with her four-year-old daughter Nina, an unexpected friendship develops between Josef and the bright girl. Free of prejudice, Nina meets her uncle and, without suspecting it, helps him step by step to get away from his addiction. 35 years later, the paths of the two cross again - now it is Nina who needs help.
