Touched by the uncompromising nature of his longtime friend and mentor Hans Josephson, Swiss cinematographer and director Jürg Hassler created this haunting and most personal portrait of the sculptor from the Baltic States in 1977, who created a large body of work in Zurich from the late 1940s on and became an international star in the last years of his life. Hassler shows how Josephsohn, as a political intellectual, wrestled with the contradiction between Western consumerism and socialist ideals, but as a sculptor did not want to be taken in and unwaveringly went his own way.
