High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer are still in shock after the death of their mother. Their father Will, a therapist by profession, is overwhelmed by his own grief and doesn't give them the support and affection they need from him. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their home asking for help, he brings with him a terrible creature that attacks families and feeds off their deepest sorrow.
