A young woman is accused of murdering her husband, who died in a mountaineering accident. Interwoven flashbacks reveal her unhappy marriage and her love affair with a young colleague of her husband’s. The woman’s emotional life is ruthlessly dissected by the judge, the jury and a sensationalist public.
