After a long absence and the death of his ex-wife, aging film director Gustav Borg returns to Oslo to recruit one of his two daughters, a celebrated stage star, to play the lead role in an autobiographical feature film. When his daughter categorically refuses, Borg hires a young Hollywood star as a replacement and also reconnects with his other daughter, who played with him as a child. The struggle over the film brings old family conflicts to the surface.

He was apparently even imprisoned and then deported to an open-cast lignite mine. Seduced by a lavish salary, Micha confirms the story, although only fragments of it are true.
