England, June 1944: The Allies, led by US General Eisenhower, are planning the largest seaborne invasion in history: the Normandy landings. Its success also depends on the weather. The British Chief Meteorologist, Captain James Stagg, is responsible for the forecast and finds himself in a bitter conflict with the Allied leadership. There are only a few hours left to pinpoint the moment that will determine the fate of thousands of lives and, possibly, the outcome of the entire war.

For 30 years, Loran Bonnardot, a doctor from Paris, has been friends with a fisherman on Tristan da Cunha, the most remote inhabited island in the middle of the South Atlantic. Now he is travelling there one last time to stay there for good. But it’s not that simple: first, the Island Council must decide whether to accept him. Loran lends a hand with shearing the sheep, befriends a penguin and gradually finds his place.
